People queuing up outside a bank to withdraw their Prihatin aid in April. Despite the pandemic, banking institutions still made profits throughout the second quarter of the year. -NSTP/ASWADI ALIASSeptember 3, 2020 @ 10:40am
KUALA LUMPUR: Extending the six-month moratorium on bank loans until December will not affect the liquidity of financial institutions, say non-governmental organisations (NGO) and unions.

The groups were of the opinion banking institutions would not face bankruptcy if the moratorium was extended.

Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Adnan Mat said the extension for another three months was not a problem as banks had made profits throughout the second quarter of the year.

"The profits showed they are still able to survive despite the moratorium and the economic slowdown due to Covid-19.

"Financially, the people are affected (and) the extension will certainly provide some relief.

"Cuepacs does not see it as a detriment to the banks, as it will only slightly reduce their profits.

"The people and the country are in trouble.

State Local Government Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, however, said the PSP application had yet to "stabilise".

"The PSP application came back online at 11am today but it is still 'on and off'. We will continue to monitor the system closely.

"If it remains unstable at the end of the day, both the Penang Island and Seberang Prai City Councils will issue a statement on parking fees for today," he told newsmen.

Yesterday, irate Penangites took to social media to vent their frustrations after they were unable to log in to their PSP account.

Tuesday, 01 Sep 2020 02:56 PM MYT
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 ยญโ€” Effective September 1, 2020, AirAsia will start charging counter check-in fees in a move to encourage contactless check-ins. According to the low-cost carrier, they have successfully deployed its contactless check-in kiosks and enhanced mobile app features to enhance operational efficiency and guests convenience.

Fee starts from RM20 per guest

The counter check-in fee costs RM20 per guest for domestic flights and RM30 per guests for international flights. This means if youโ€™re travelling in a group of four, thatโ€™s a total of RM160 in fees for a return trip.

The fees can be paid by cash or credit card at the airport. Alternatively, guests are able to pre-book the counter check-in service by modifying their booking under on the AirAsia website or mobile app. Just go to โ€œMy Bookingsโ€ > โ€œAdd-onsโ€ > โ€œAirport Shuttle, Car Rental, Tune Talk & Moreโ€ > โ€œCounter Check-inโ€. Do note that you canโ€™t add the option when you book a new flight ticket.

AirAsia Group Chief Operations Officer Javed Malik said, โ€œWe have seen a very high adoption of our self-check in services through our website, mobile app and airport kiosks over recent times. Thus, the implementation of the counter check-in fees is a way for us to further encourage guests to use these digital technologies, which we have invested enormously in, to promote and enhance operational efficiency and guest convenience.โ€

โ€œIn view of the Covid-19 pandemic, these self-check in facilities have become very crucial in minimising physical contact between our guests and staff. In the past two months, thousands of guests on essential travel have experienced our contactless travel procedures as we stepped up our safety and security measures for the health and safety of our guests and Allstars.โ€

How to avoid counter check-in fees?

To avoid paying the check-in fees, guests can opt to check-in using the AirAsia.com website, mobile app or at the airport kiosks. Once youโ€™ve checked-in, you can print your boarding pass and print your baggage tag.

Once youโ€™ve attached the tag to your bag, you can drop it off at the baggage drop counters. The baggage drop counters open 2 hours before departure time for domestic flight and 3 hours for international.

The counter check-in fees are currently applicable for domestic and international flights in Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Honoulu (Hawaii). Below are the check-in fees in various currencies:

There are exemptions for the counter check-in fees. This includes guests with reduced mobility, guests travelling with an infant (under 24 months of age) and young guests travelling alone (YPTA). The check-in fee is also waived for guests affected due to schedule changes and flight cancellation.

If the check-in kiosks are not available or out of service, the counter check-in fees will be waived as well. This also includes guests who are unable to complete their web, mobile or kiosk check-in due to a system error.

Exemption is also given to guests that purchased a seat upgrade, Big platinum and Big Black members, Premium Flex and Flatbed guests, Red Carpet guests and guests on travel warrant and government bookings.

malaymailThursday, 27 Aug 2020 03:22 PM MYT
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 โ€” Business owners must check the body temperature of patrons but are not required to record every reading, clarified Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

He explained the main intention is to ensure people are not symptomatic before they enter a business premises.

โ€œIf the reading is more than 37.5ยฐC, they cannot be allowed in, and if they are less than 37.5ยฐC, it is their right to enter the premises.

โ€œSo, it is not compulsory to record, they just need to check the temperature, and from there, see if they (visitors) can be allowed in or not.

โ€œIf they (businesses) do not record the temperature, they cannot have action taken against them,โ€ he said.

Ismail Sabri however stressed jotting down oneโ€™s personal details such as name and phone number for contact tracing purposes is still a requirement, unless they scan their details using the MySejahtera app.

This follows some claims by business owners that the authorities have taken action against them for not recording the temperature of customers despite screening everyone before entry.
