Muhyiddin: Loan repayment aid, moratorium worth RM30b to benefit five million borrowers

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Loan repayment assistance and a moratorium worth up to RM30 billion starting June 2021 is expected to benefit more than five million borrowers, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said that as a result of discussions with Bank Negara Malaysia, the banking industry gave full assurance and commitment to continue to provide loan repayment assistance and moratorium.

“Therefore, for all B40 groups and people affected by job loss as well as micro-enterprises and SMEs that are not allowed to operate during the movement control order (MCO), you are given the option to obtain a moratorium approval automatically for three months,” he said when announcing the Pemerkasa Plus assistance package worth RM40 billion here tonight.

“Insha-Allah, the banking industry will provide more detailed information on this matter starting tomorrow. I hope, the announcement of this automatic moratorium can give some relief to borrowers of banking institutions,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the government would also launch the Bus and Taxi Hire Purchase Rehabilitation Scheme this week with an allocation of RM1 billion.

He said that through the scheme, eligible bus and taxi operators can get a loan moratorium of up to 12 months and extend the loan period up to 36 months.

“I recommend that government agencies and companies offer deferred loan repayments as well as discounts on business premises rental,” he said.

Mara will also continue the Mara Prihatin Peace of Mind programme which is open until July 31, 2021 where borrowers can apply online to reschedule education loan repayments or moratorium, he said.

For Mara entrepreneurs affected by the economic downturn, a 30 per cent discount on the rental of business premises will be given for the months of May to July 2021. — Bernama

Fomca demands moratorium, salary cut for MPs ahead of lockdown

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (Fomca) has demanded the government to reinstate a blanket loan moratorium for six months as the country goes into total lockdown next week.

Apart from that, Fomca president Datuk Dr Marimuthu Nadason called the government to halt salary payment for members of parliament and state assemblymen during the lockdown period.

"Since the Parliament and state assemblies are not functioning, why should MPs and state assemblymen be paid for idling on their couch at home?

"Instead, the government should provide at least RM3,000 financial aid for every B40 (bottom 40 per cent) household for six months. Similar assistance should be given to M40 (middle 40 per cent) households as well.
"Utility bills should also not be raised for these households.

"Taxpayers must be exempted from paying income tax as their jobs are hanging in the balance due to the government's short-sighted decisions.

"Likewise, individuals who sell their properties during this period must be exempted from taxes," he told the New Straits Times today.

Marimuthu also urged for bankruptcy proceedings to be deferred at the moment.

Instead, he called for the government to expedite the Covid-19 vaccination drive and provide students with iPad for them to follow home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).

Semakan tarif air PBAPP ikut kelulusan Kerajaan Persekutuan

Georgetown: Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang dan Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) tidak menetapkan masa semakan semula tarif air di Pulau Pinang kerana ia tertakluk kepada kelulusan Kerajaan Persekutuan.

Ketua Pegawai Eksekutifnya, Datuk Ir Jaseni Maidinsa berkata, permohonan bagi semakan tarif sudah dilakukan pihaknya pada 2019 bagi memenuhi syarat memperbaharui Lesen Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) untuk beroperasi pada tahun 2020 hingga 2022.

"SPAN memutuskan bagi mengadakan rundingan awam mengenai permohonan semakan tarif PBAPP pada tahun 2021.

"Permohonan PBAPP pada 2019 juga sudah mematuhi arahan SPAN yang mewajibkan semua operator air di Malaysia menetapkan tarif berpatutan, sesuai dengan formula Mekanisme Penetapan Tarif (TSM) SPAN," katanya menerusi kenyataan di sini, hari ini.

Terdahulu Naib Presiden MCA, Datuk Tan Teik Cheng mendakwa Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang perlu menghentikan rancangan bagi menaikkan tarif air yang dikatakan tidak sesuai berikutan pandemik Covid-19.

Menurut Jaseni, SPAN juga melaksanakan rundingan awam berhubung cadangan semakan tarif di Kedah, Perak, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan serta Johor bagi tahun 2021 selain Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor dan WP Labuan pada 2019 dan 2020.

HAS YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY INCREASED THE PRICE OF YOUR MEDICAL PREMIUMS?

FOMCA has been recently receiving many complaints from policy holders of medical insurance of indiscriminate increase in the price of their premiums. We are concerned of how extensive this issue this and how many consumers have been similarly affected by the price increase of their premiums.

We call on all consumers with medical insurance policies to inform us of the price increase of your premiums and for those who have not received any notices of price increase in your medical insurance to contact your agent and ask him/her if there is indeed any increase in the price of your medical premiums.

At the current time, with unending lockdowns and conditional lockdowns, many consumers have been severely affected either through loss of jobs or reduction in incomes. This is certainly not the time to increase insurance premiums.

It is certainly wrong and unacceptable that insurance companies, at this time raise premium prices to make excessive profits. Consumers are already suffering.

If based on your feedback, we find that many consumers have been forced to pay increasing medical premiums, FOMCA will be launching a National Campaign to urge Bank Negara Malaysia to Stop the Increase in Medical Premiums. 

Consumers are facing tremendous economic pressure due to job loss, income loss and economic insecurity. Now is certainly not the time to increase medical insurance premiums.

As a responsible regulator, Bank Negara Malaysia, to protect consumers, should have already pre-emptively directed insurance companies not to increase premiums at his point of time.

THE demand for electricity is rowing in lockstep with technological advancements. Fortunately, there are numerous opportunities to reduce energy cost in industrial and commercial sectors.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act provides significant benefits to industrial and commercial sectors, particularly in terms of lowering energy cost.

By introducing energy efficiency programmes, the industrial sector will increase economic productivity through energy-efficient technologies and processes.

In addition, the registered energy manager will keep track of their usage and make recommendations to increase their performance based on their operations. This would have a direct impact on energy use and bill.

The Energy Audit Conditional Grant 2.0 (EACG 2.0) provides financial assistance to commercial and industrial customers in deploying energy-saving measures.

EACG 2.0, in collaboration with local Energy Service Companies, will enable energy audit on buildings. Buildings can achieve energy saving under the Low Carbon Building Assessment by Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda).

Low Carbon Building Assessment will contribute to companies committing to sustainability goals such as going 100% clean or zero carbon.

The government’s green technology incentives can be used to support green industrial revolution efforts. Hence, the commercial and industrial sectors should be pioneers in energy transition rather than wait for government policy to forge a path.

fomca logoGABUNGAN Persatuan-Persatuan Pengguna Malaysia (Fomca) mencadangkan empat strategi mudah dalam memastikan tempoh pelanggan berada di dalam pusat beli-belah kurang daripada dua jam.

Timbalan Presidennya, Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman berkata, antaranya pengguna boleh menyediakan senarai barang yang ingin dibeli terlebih dahulu sebelum ke pasar raya.

“Pembeli sepatutnya menyediakan senarai barang yang ingin dibeli, jadi dia akan terus pergi ke rak barangan yang ingin dibeli sahaja.

“Masalah yang berlaku sekarang ini apabila tiada senarai, itu punca pengguna mengambil masa untuk memikirkan barang yang hendak dibeli dan berpusing-pusing di dalam pasar raya.

“Dalam keadaan sekarang, pengguna perlu amalkan cara seperti ini untuk mengelakkan daripada berlakunya situasi berkumpul secara beramai-ramai,” katanya ketika dihubungi Sinar Harian pada Ahad.

Sementara itu, Mohd Yusof berkata, pasar raya perlu menyediakan kaedah ‘imbas dan bayar’ yang akan memudahkan pengguna serta pekerjanya.

“Kita boleh ambil contoh pasar raya Lotus yang menggunakan aplikasi imbas dan bayar.

“Pelanggan perlu imbas sendiri barang yang ingin dibeli di rak barangan dan kemudian apabila sampai di kaunter, akan terus buat bayaran tanpa perlu diimbas lagi.

'Bukan pakej pelaburan kami'

Pengarahnya, Rohani Mohd Shahir berkata, promosi tersebut memaparkan beberapa pakej yang ditawarkan antaranya Silver, Gold dan Platinum.

"Promosi itu turut menyatakan modal pelaburan sebanyak RM300, RM1,300, RM3,000 dan pulangan yang dijanjikan adalah dalam masa 24 jam sebanyak RM9,800, RM27,000 dan RM51,000.

"Pihak yang tidak bertanggungjawab ini telah menggunakan logo syarikat, salinan Sijil Pendaftaran Syarikat kami dengan niat menarik perhatian orang ramai untuk melabur dengan menjanjikan pulangan yang tinggi dan tidak munasabah dalam tempoh hanya 24 jam," katanya menerusi kenyataan pada Sabtu.

Rohani berkata, pihaknya telah membuat laporan polis berhubung perkara tersebut.

"Kami berharap orang ramai tidak terperdaya dengan tipu daya scammer ini.

"Logo-logo lain yang terdapat di iklan ini termasuk logo Bank Negara Malaysia, Bursa Kuala Lumpur, Patuh Syariah, Angkasa dan tanda Halal Jakim," katanya.

Petaling Jaya: Seorang pesara wanita kerugian lebih RM1 juta selepas menjadi mangsa penipuan Macau scam yang menyamar pegawai bank dengan memperdaya konon kad kreditnya digunakan untuk pembelian mata wang dalam talian, bitcoin.

Ketua Polis Daerah Petaling Jaya Asisten Komisioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid berkata, mangsa berusia 60 tahun pada 2 petang 1 April lalu ketika berada di rumahnya di Petaling Jaya menerima panggilan operator daripada bank yang memaklumkan kad kredit bank didaftarkan atas namanya membuat pembelian bitcoin di satu laman sesawang sosial.

Menurutnya, mangsa menafikan perkara itu dan panggilan itu kemudian disambungkan ke bank negara.

"Seterusnya, mangsa memberikan maklumat peribadinya kepada pihak bank negara untuk membuat laporan polis bagi menafikan mengenai kad kredit yang didaftarkan atas nama mangsa.

"Pada 9.02 pagi keesokannya, mangsa menerima salinan laporan polis melalui WhatsApp dan panggilan telefon itu disambungkan kepada polis," katanya dalam satu kenyataan, hari ini.

Mohamad Fakhrudin berkata, mangsa diminta memberikan kesemua maklumat akaun banknya bagi tujuan untuk memperbaharui akaunnya daripada disalahgunakan oleh individu lain.

ALOR SETAR: Kerani sebuah kedai buku di Mergong, di sini, kerugian RM255,250.99 selepas menerima mesej kononnya memenangi peraduan anjuran sebuah syarikat makanan.

Ketua Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial Kedah, Superintendan Elias Omar, berkata wanita berusia 25 tahun itu menerima mesej melalui WhatsApp mendakwa dia memenangi peraduan sebanyak RM3,300.

Beliau berkata, mangsa kemudian diarahkan untuk memasukkan wang bagi mencukupi nilai pada cek yang disediakan oleh pihak syarikat.

"Tanpa membuat semakan, mangsa memindahkan wang sebanyak 52 kali ke lapan akaun berbeza secara deposit tunai di mesin juruwang automatik (ATM) sehingga mencecah jumlah RM255,250.99.
"Bagaimanapun mangsa mula sedar ditipu apabila suspek meminta mangsa membuat pindahan wang lagi," katanya dalam kenyataan, hari ini.

Elias berkata, mangsa membuat laporan di Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Kota Setar pada 10 Mei lalu untuk memaklumkan kejadian itu.

Berikutan itu, katanya, satu kertas siasatan dibuka mengikut Seksyen 420 Kanun Keseksaan kerana menipu.

"Polis menasihatkan orang ramai jangan mudah percaya pada panggilan atau WhatsApp menyatakan memenangi apa-apa peraduan dan meminta supaya membayar kos untuk mendapatkan hadiah berkenaan.

"Selain itu anda dinasihatkan membuat semakan dengan mana-mana syarikat yang menganjurkan peraduan itu," katanya.
